Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for the rugs to arrive?

From the moment of placing the order, it takes approximately six to eight weeks for the rugs to be delivered. As the rugs are entirely handmade, the time it takes to produce the rugs varies, especially depending on the size of the order. Customized orders often take longer than standardized ones.

Are house visits or fittings possible?

If you are living in Amsterdam, we are more than happy to come by and take a look at your space. Depending on the rug and its size, we may be able to bring a selection to your house. Furthermore, we offer photoshop mock-ups placing the rug into an environment of your choice.

How are the rugs produced?

The rugs are hand-woven or hand-knotted in India and Morocco. We only use natural raw materials: the yarns are dyed with natural methods using carefully composed mixtures of plants and flowers in a cauldron over an open fire, dyed over 4 days controlled every 45 minutes. The rug is then hand washed with natural soap and dried under the sun. Socially and ecologically responsible production is at the center of the production of all the rugs that are available at Zakaria Rugs.

Who designs the rugs?

Our Head of Design Gabrielė Adomaitytė has created the In-House collection that consists of Sign, Bracelets, E la nave va, Wavelet, Diffusion, and Off Axis. Zakaria Rugs aims to offer other artists a platform for self-expression through the medium of rugs, meaning that other carefully selected artists’ works have also been carried out. Consequently, Saana Mirzaie, Nina Sinding, Frédérique Gagnon, Fred Heinsohn, Lamas Burgariotti, and Frances McBain have designed rugs for our Artist Rugs collections. Philip Rosenberger is curating and conceptualizing all collections.

What inspired Zakaria Rugs?

While visiting Morocco, Rosenberger was inspired by the skilled handcraft of the weavers of traditional rugs. The slow and intricate process of making the hand-woven rugs created a stark contrast between the modern world of unsustainable consumption, giving Rosenberger the idea of trying to combine these techniques with contemporary art.
