From 22th - 30th October 2021 Zakaria Rugs participated at Dutch Design Week (DDW) to not only bridge the gap between art, design and handcraft but also to express the impact of fast-pace machine production in a world of digital, tech and unthoughtful, out-of-scale overconsumption.
Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven is the largest design event in Northern Europe and presents work and concepts from more than 2,600 designers to more than 355,000 visitors from home and abroad. With this year's theme of The Greater Number, Dutch Design Week called for a critical look on production and consumption. DDW aimed to shine light on designers who are looking for the right balance not towards less or more, but towards the better. Large groups of designers are aware that things need to be done differently and keep working on creative ideas and innovative designs. There is no ready-made solution but a joint search for a better balance.
Zakaria Rugs exhibited a 400 x 300 cm 'Diffusion', a 300 x 200 cm 'Off Axis', a 300 x 200 cm 'E la nave va' and a 300 x 200 cm 'Sign' rug. Zakaria Rugs was part of Sectie C, a collaborative show 'Displaced' curated by Studio Speciaal and Burna Collectables. Studio Speciaal is an interdisciplinary moving between the disciplines of design, technology and art. Burna Collectables contributed with their network putting the exhibition and documentation together.
